The New Generation of Parents
With  advancements in technology and biomedical engineering the journey to becoming a parent today is a lot less traditional.
Stem cells are being used in many ways to revolutionize healthcare. A team in Japan (iCeMS) have announced a way to use stem cells to create an egg. They have figured out a way to use IPS, which are often derived from skin cells, to create the eggs. This means that they are able to use men’s DNA to create an egg for fertilization. It will open up an opportunity for gay men to use surrogates and DNA from both parents for their child!
But this also raises strange opportunities… such as one person providing both the sperm and the egg, allowing them to in fact clone themselves; creating an offspring with identical genetic makeup.
Similar research from Stanford created sperm cells from IPS cells also raised problems of its own…

That’s not all, Green says. Posthumous reproduction “becomes a possibility,” he says, which would mean that “people who are dead or long dead — so long as there is a live tissue sample somewhere being preserved — could be the parents of children.” This might appeal, for instance, to the family of a man who died in a war, Green says.

All these things are giving us an opportunity for something greater, but I can definitely feel the overstepping of boundaries. Any one have strong opinions about either side? Please share in the comments or through a message!

Where I come from, the content of this post (all of it) would cause such stress and public outrage to fry the brains of almost the entire population.
Stay informed and always remember the words of “Uncle Ben”.

Woah.
